SHOES WORK TO STOMP OUT VIOLENCE: Women, girls, local celebs and local politicians will walk the runway on Saturday to help end violence against women and children.

The third annual “Walk in Her Shoes Designer Shoe Fashion & Trunk Show” will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Mildred Bastian Center for Performing Arts at Forest Park Community College.

The fashion show is hosted by Every Step Counts (EstepCo), which is a non-profit agency that wants to bring awareness to the need to end domestic abuse and other forms of violence against women and children, and to celebrate the stories of survivors.

The designer shoe fashion show includes national and local celebrity guest models. This year 12 middle school girls will walk the catwalk with Mrs. America 2009, Andrea Robertson, to promote violence prevention for adolescents.

The team of St. Louis-born Katelyn, Meganand Mattison Gelber – creators of KM2 Shoes — has designed a special edition shoe called the “awareness shoe” that will be featured in the show. Ten percent of each sale of the shoe will be donated to EstepCo.

Others joining the show this year include: KMOV (Channel 4) news anchor Vickie Newton; KMOV’s “Great Day St. Louis” host Carol Daniel; St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley; president of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen Lewis Reed; KSDK (Channel 5) anchor Heidi Glaus; STL-TV host and producer Ivy Hartman; Clear Channel Radio’s St. Louis promotions and community affairs director Arika Parr; and this colyumnist.
